The NASSEA Language, Literacy and Learning course is delivered as a teacher development course for UK amd International schools and as a Professional Learning Leader (train the trainer) course for International Schools.
Since its development in 2016, the Language, Literacy and Learning course has been delivered in schools in the UK and around the world. The impact of the course has been evident through feedback from the Professional Learning Leaders and the participants on the courses. Participants benefit from research-informed practical strategies for the classroom, which focus on the language development and access to the curriculum of bilingual learners. Professional Learning Leaders have ongoing access to online resources to support delivery of the course and contact with the course consultants to discuss any questions or issues arising during delivery of the course in their school.
The 16 hour taught Teacher Development Course is run by NASSEA consultants and by Professional Learning Leaders in their schools. It can be taught as a separate course for Primary and Secondary staff or as a cross-phase course, using examples from each phase. Delivery is by speaker, discussion and workshop activity, gap tasks and classroom application. (Primary course, Secondary course)
The 20-hour Professional Learning leader course gives participants the skills they need to deliver the Language, Literacy and Learning teacher development course in their school. The Professional Learning Leader course is suitable for experienced teachers of bilingual learners from International Primary and Secondary schools and is tailored to fit the needs of the age range taught. Delivery is by speaker, discussion and workshop activity, gap tasks and classroom application. Participants will be given a thorough understanding of how to deliver the course and there will be opportunities to present aspects of the course to their peers in the sessions. Participants completing the course will receive a Language, Literacy and Learning Professional Learning Leader certificate and will be licensed by NASSEA to deliver the course in their school.
