The M.Ed Bilingualism in Education programme has now closed. From 2001 to 2022, in partnership with the University of Birmingham, NASSEA offered a distance learning course aimed at specialist teachers of EAL leading to a Postgraduate Certificate, Postgraduate Diploma or a Master’s Degree in Bilingualism in Education.

This well-established and successful programme, devised by the University of Birmingham and adapted by NASSEA, ran successfully for twenty-one academic years, working with teachers, and other education staff with a first degree, to develop their knowledge and classroom practice in working with multilingual learners . The programme was aimed at specialist teachers of English as an Additional Language and was also relevant to other staff working with children and young people learning EAL.

The legacy of this popular course lives on in the fantastic work done in schools and through professional development by the graduates and tutors of the course.
